Feel free to look up the tartan of your clan (Scottish) or your county (Irish) or a pattern you like. Please do not wear a Bruce tartan. That is reserved for the groom.

Other kilt questions answered:
Sporran is the bag (NOT a purse) worn because kilts don't have pockets. Not needed, but lovely to have. Or your date can hold your phone and wallet.
Kilt Hose can be worn or not. Eric will often wear socks that don't come over the shoes. Don't try to wear dress socks and pull them up to be hose. Either kilt hose or very short black or brown socks.
Flashes - worn only with kilt hose. They often come with the kilt and are in the same pattern.
The pleats on the kilt go in the back. The flat side is in the front.
Worn under the kilt? Look it up. We're not answering that.
